Getting enough UVB??

My Greek tortoise hatchling is constantly sleeping, but research said this was pretty normal for a hatchling. But, every time he goes to sleep he likes to almost completely bury himself and I wonder if he is getting enough UVB light if he is covered in substrate. I use Repti chip coconut husk substrate and in all other ways he is completely healthy, just worried about the possibility of developing MBD later in his life. Any advice would be appreciated.

He should be getting enough. That's what they do. Attach a pic of the enclosure and maybe we can help tweak it. Like adding plants to make him feel safer and possibly not hide so much. Fake plants will work. Just keep an eye out for him wanting to eat them.

My Russian baby buries himself too.
Once you baby is an inch long is there anyway you can put it outside in a secure enclosure for an hour a couple of times a week. That way it would get a good dose of real uvb.
I’m making my outdoor enclosure from a plastic kiddie pool it’s cheap and quick and will last a little while.

I try to take him out for about 45 minutes to half an hour every day weather permitting. Hasn't been very often lately with Michigan weather though.
