Pet Smart should be legally barred from selling tortoises. I can not ever remember seeing an adoption from them that was in good overall shape, there is always at least one issue. And they lie through their TEETH about age and captive bred or wild caught among other things. You seem to have gotten lucky, I see no pyramiding, beyond a beak that isn't perfect he looks alright. I do suggest daily soaks for a week in case he was dehydrated. A toothbrush and warm water will clean up the shell a good deal as well.

I agree, someone I know said the people at pet smart were feeding their tortoises iceberg lettuce.

I can't name the thread off the top of my head, but the other day I saw someone say that here about them doing that...I DO remember saying if I ever catch them doing it we will have words.

I was in PetSmart the other day getting dog food and happened to peep a Russian Tortoise for sale. It was in a (what seemed like) 12x12 enclosure, with a pile of dried up corn, celery, and some mushy stuff that looked less appealing than my dog food. I fussed at one of the workers about it, and they said it was a “certified diet” whatever that means. It’s so depressing.

Oh and I ended up not buying the dog food from them and just went to Target.

Well you can see in my previous pictures how that “certified diet” comes out

I wonder why Blue’s skin was so yellow when I first got him [emoji848]. Could it be lack UV or bad diet that caused it?

Blues enclosure take 3. He now has a 3x a little over 3 area to walk in. I’m thinking of adding a light to the new side but don’t want to add heat because it’s his cool side. Any suggestions? Also he ate his plants so I have to grow some lol so it’s kinda bare

This has been so helpful to read. Boris has very pale yellow skin. He was originally a Pet Smart purchase, and definitely not cstef for very well in his time with the original owner this is really helpful to see how much he needs right now.
