We were given a red footed tortoise last Friday. They think she is a girl. She was living in a 55 gallon aquarium with a heat lamp and natural sunlight through a window. We are from Nebraska. We ran out and bought the zoo med tortoise box and she has settled in nicely. We will be attaching a second box to it by this fall to give her more space to exercise. I feel bad that she is in an enclosed box after being in a glass aquarium and watching the room for the past 5 years. She is in and out of her hide throughout the day. And always comes out for greens. Is it possible to over feed the tortoise. I feel like she was eating mainly pellets and greens maybe once a week. Will the sudden change in her diet affect her? Since I put in something fresh everyday she has not touched the pellets. Sorry I have some many questions beyond the many many care sheets I've read since I found out she was coming to stay with us. Thanks for having such a good group. Talk to you later.

Hello and Welcome. She won't over eat as long as she has a proper size enclosure. Unfortunately the box you bought isn't big enough and neither is two of them. If you can get her an outdoor enclosure for the warm days. Feed her every day the proper foods. Have water provided in a shallow low sided clay saucer. Read the RF caresheet under the RF section.
