You might remember me from my previous posts. I thought my 7" sulcata wasn't eating for 3 weeks. Turns out she has been eating old dry leaves. She looks at her other food, sometimes tastes it a spits it out. (Grass, cactus, spring mix, romaine). She used to eat anything, no problem before she moved to a new home. She passes up everything I try to feed her. And instead hunts for little dry leaves all over the yard. Any ideas why?

Idk I noticed mine eating all the dry grass and sticks the other day when there was plenty of green grass, cucumbers, roses and pumpkin flowers I've been growing n gave as a Sunday treat. Maybe it was just too much green lol 20180617_125144.jpg

In my experience, they eat what they want to eat, not what you want or think what they should be eating. Thats just how they are about everything. Put down a nice big plate of mazuri and grass and greens, they will spend forever nibbling on one simple clover flower, or an old piece of whatever. Our job is to provide a broad range of grasses, weeds, water, secure warm housing... they know what to do..

I often see mine more interested in dry greens from day before then their fresh food. When there is no Mazuri or other soaked pellets around they make weird choices. I recall another member here (@Anyfoot) noticed similar behavior in his herd as well. Glad you are breathing sigh of relief now but in the future I think dry greens are no different then hay, only then I’d be sure the tort is well hydrated
