Horsefield Shedding its scales

Hello there!

I just got my Horsefield a couple of weeks ago (he originally lived on Long Island and now in MA). He was given to me with a large patch of his scales missing on the back side of his legs and it looks like most of his skin/scales are flaking off all over. I took him to a vet that referred himself as a generalist and thinks because the skin is red that its fine but I am noticing it more. I'm not convinced. Should I be concerned?

As a note. Pokey doesn't live in the see through tote. He just let me take a good pic while he was having his weekly soak
