Bean is 1!! And also need help with gender...

Bean turned 1 year’s old a couple days ago on June 30th and she’s (I think Bean might be a girl) grown a lot from when she was first born. She was only 24 grams and when I took her home from @Carol S she was 50 grams. Now she’s 300 grams and 4 inches long. But I do need help in identifying Bean’s gender. I’ve seen the picture/drawing that shows the difference in tails for male and female, but Bean’s tail looks more like the female’s tail.

Looks female to me, however most all babies look female. You may need to wait until Bean is a bit bigger.

Ohhh I see. I also tried to calculated Bean’s ideal weight and it came out to be 283.7 grams, but I don’t know how accurate the equation for Russians is. The equation is length•width•height(all in cm)•0.57=ideal weight in grams. Bean doesn’t seem overweight to me but do you think there’s another equation for me to be able to tell if Bean is at her ideal weight?

They all look female when they are young. You can usually tell with russians at 4-5 years old.

Don't worry about those silly weight equations. If your tortoise is healthy, eating good and well hydrated, then her ideal weight is whatever it is.

Bean is beautiful. She is really getting big.

Glad to hear that and I guess it’ll be awhile before I’ll know Bean’s gender. I can’t wait to find out in a couple years!

300g should be big enough for sexing, so... it's a girl!
