Hey guys my name is Jason and i've just been recently getting into tortoises. I cared for my friends tortoise for two months and its really made me want to have one of my own. I've built a nice outdoor enclosure and i have an indoor enclosure as well. I think i want to raise a baby tort but i haven't decided on what type.

Welcome! Could we see pictures of both enclosures? What are you looking for in a tortoise?

Something that doesn't require too much advanced care and a good starter, the one i cared for was a russian

I think a Russian would be good for you!
Here are some care sheets-
Russian Tortoise Care Sheet https://tortoiseforum.org/index.php?threads/Russian-Tortoise-Care-Sheet.80698/.

Beginner Mistakes https://tortoiseforum.org/index.php?threads/Beginner-Mistakes.45180/

Those uvb lights should not be used. They don’t provide very much uvb, and they can burn eyes. Additionally, both of the lamps should be coming straight down, not on a clamp. You can get a zoomed lamp stand for that.
I would use a floured scent tube uvb, like the reptisun 10.0.

I would also replace the water bowl with a terra cotta saucer.

Everything else looks great! What are the dimensions of the tub, and how tall are the walls of the outdoor enclosure?

Ill be sure to get a different bulb, wouldn't wanna hurt the tort, i also am not sure where to get the tortoise i don't want to buy one from petco as thats endorsing animal cruelty but im not sure of any trusty sites or breeders

Welcome to the forum! Good to see someone from New Freedom on here. I was born in York, and lived there until 2006. You've come to the best place to learn all you need to know to care for your soon-to-be friend. I have a desert tortoise named Chug.

Hello and welcome.

You'll need to rig up a way to hang your bulbs from over head. PVC can work, or a frame of 2x4s. Coco coir is okay for a baby russian, but it will need to be dampened.

Those food and water bowls are dangerous for tortoises. Go to the hardware store and get some terra cotta plant saucers for about $2. Sink them into the substrate. Use one for food and one for water.

Be careful with the plastic plants. Some tortoises eat those. I can't use them.

The sides on the outdoor enclosure need to be taller, and you need to cap those corners to prevent escape.

I also highly recommend @Carol S as a source for babies.
