How about shelters? My sister adopted a pug from the city kennel.
This rescue group takes possession of all purebred pugs at shelters within a 100+ mile radius and about half of the pug mixes. Some out of state pugs, too. I’m looking to spot pugs at shelters before they get hold of them. It’s a race!

Yep, that's what my sister did.

You may be able to call the shelters directly and be put on a list to be called if they get a pug in as a surrender so you can beat the rescue.

Sorry to hear that, seems like this rescue really likes pugs. I would keep an eye out though, around herte pugs are up for adoption everyday, they hate our heat lol. and people hate their energy. Hopefully you do find one though. Keep on looking and be patient and you will find the perfect dog.

I’m sorry about that. This type of screening in part leads to feed the backyard breeders in the first place.
I’ve been looking for pugs on Petfinder and Adoptapet for around two weeks now. I put in a 250 mile radius, and so far every pug is with a rescue that does home visits. I’m not terribly encouraged at this point. I’m not against getting puppies, but I really wanted to do rescue this time.

Such crap...one person infringing on another based on what "they" think is appropriate.....I wish you well.

i have adopted 4 dogs. With every adoption, Even the ones far away, They have a network of people who do the home check. It's likely that even if you find a rescue from far away, that they will use the same person who already checked your home.

Did the agency say you failed your second home visit? How much time apart from each visit were you allotted? Did you fix each and every concern from the first visit? Not as in a band-aid effect (simple patch work) but actually going over and beyond what they're insisting?

The effort, quality, and speed taken in addressing said concerns may sometimes be more important to these agencies than other factors combined. I've spoken to different home inspectors (for an ex) on only two occasions but both of them pretty much said the same thing.

They said the second visit confirmed the first. Six days passed between visits. I am not going to consider any rescues that do home visits. The rescue group does great things for pugs, so I can’t fault them on that. I just won’t be able to work with them.

Are you comfortable sharing which rescue group it is?
I’m not going to. They help a lot of pugs, and, although I disagree with their decision regarding me, I wouldn’t want to deter anyone else from working with them if they want a pug.

Ok. I understand. I have a lot of friends in the rescue community and one in particular that works with pug rescue. Of course she loves anytime someone prefers to rescue so was wondering about getting some insight from her.

This seems so unfair to me! I haven’t been on here for awhile but my pug and I think you’d be an awesome Pug Mommy to a rescue! I don’t get the your house is messy?! I try to keep a clean house but then again I have a 6 year old boy plus 2 dogs, 2 cats, a tortoise and a chicken. My house is nice and kept up but we’ll have a day of craziness! My Pearl the pug is 6 months so go figure! She is into everything! Just keep trying!
