Do any one know a tortoise that's easy to breed? Or that's just good to breed?
Either for sell or just to help out the population
That's just what I was wanting to know rates, thanks[emoji4]The initial setup of a breeder colony can be hard, but once settled in, breeding isn't a problem. It takes time to find compatible mates and to adjust new tortoises to the environment. If your talking about hatching rates, Sulcatas tend to be very successful. I believe it's around 75-90%.
Thank you very much Tom you have answered my question [emoji4]Pick a species that is in short supply and high demand, or a species that is still frequently imported from the wild.
I would suggest pancakes, hermanni, marginateds, or Russians.
The world does not need more sulcata breeders. Seems like the supply and demand needs are met for leopards and RFs too. We still import lots of russians from the wild, and I would love to see that need met by captive breeding instead. Indian and Sri Lankan stars are relatively slow reproducers, and there is a need for them too.
