now I get that the moving around and new abode may be an issue but I am concerned,
any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Don't worry, torts do not like change, therefore they take time to adapt.

Please post pics of your tort and his enclosure. This would enable us to help you more easily.

This is a hard time of year to be adding a new tortoise because of the change in the weather. Quite a few of the desert tortoises are already starting to slow down in their eating. They stop eating a couple weeks before brumation in order to clean out their digestive tract.

Because this is a new-to-you tortoise it would be a good idea to not allow it to brumate this winter. Set it up indoors in a large area with lights and heat. Then you can worry about trying to get it to eat. You can try mushing up cucumber and mixing it all over the greens so they all smell like cucumber. Maybe he'll eat that way. But first you've got to convince him that it's the middle of summer, with long days and warm nights.
