I knew somebody would correct me! It's how I learn. Is there a difference between Terrapin and Terrapene? Spelling?
The problem is that my sister taught me almost everything I know about raising tortoises. Then all the sudden she'd start bringing me 20-25 Gopherus Agazzi hatchlings and I would raise them correctly until they were 1 yr. old then she'd adopt them out. OMGosh! Try going from not knowing much to having herds of the little beasts. :) It was so much work and so much fun. Any how I've had turtles and tortoises for a number of years now and I live out of state I raise them the way I want to...correctly of course. I did raise a Sulcata to 125 lbs before he died at 17.....lesson.....be careful how much clover your tort eats....I'll shut up now.....

Ok... I totally agree!!! And I still correct people!!! Bob[emoji217] is a TORTOISE!!! A Leo more specifically!

But in the terms of a turtle vs a tortoise... it is more of a prestige thing [emoji16] (to my understanding)

If you look into the taxonomy of it all, A tortoise is a turtle, BUT every turtle is not a tortoise!

According to the last research I read, a tortoise is a subspecies of turtles that have in fact evolved to live on land!!!

Aka... tortoises are crazy mother-forking awesome and deserve the most prestigious title!!!

aka----motherFORKING TORTOISE!!!

I posted a kids-ish motivated video the other day... it discussed just this!

AND ... I will continue to correct people to the end of my days!!! Even if a tortoise can be called a turtle.......... they DESERVE to be summoned under their proper title of

Mr.

or

Ms. TORTOISE!!!!!!!

PS: Apple emoji has a tortoise with stumpy feet, not a flippered turtle [emoji8]

PSS: I LOVE THEM ALL, and I dream I am swimming with Squirt and Crush from "Finding Nemo" ...Renamed (by me) as the adventures of "Squirtle D. Turtle, the Current of the Shelled Exclusive" ... it has HOURS of behind the scenes and endless bloopers as they slowly plow over the lunch salad bar tent instead of the directed scene of whatever is clearly NOT the SALAD BAR!!! My Bob was a Sulcata

WackiePedia sounds a bit footish and elephantine...OOOPS. Sorry, I mean Wikipedia....so, box turtles are pond turtles then. OK.....we don't all have to like where we live. Right. A bit of thinking OUTSIDE the BOX. And roaming out of the pond....hmmmm.

But boxies, at least some types like 3-toeds, LOVE water and can eat in water, which are not the usual tort characteristics.

OK, they CAN eat in water, whereas I thought all turtles HAVE to eat in water.

Very cool. What part of LA are you from?
Hi, Lunacris! I'm only just now seeing this, because i'm taking a little break from electronics for a while.
I grew up in Hammond and lived in Metairie for a good while. Hubby and I have now lived in Covington for 18 years.
So cool that you are in N.O.! :)
