Hey everyone i have a hatchling around 6-9 months old named Tortie. We currently have him in a vivarium in my living room hes around 2&1/2 inches long (we measured the underside of his shell) and we are assuming hes a boy as we know hes too young to officially sex!
Just wanted to check im doing right by him as this is a whole new world to me. I have store bought tortoise terrain as his substrate and feed him on pellets one day and plants weeds and we give him some broccoli and kale on the other days. I have calcium powder which i lightly dust onto the fresh foods every other day. We have a hollowed out log to provide some shade and i bath him every other day. I spray his enclosure daily with water to add humidity. I asked in the shop where we bought him from about the moss but was told that hes a desert tortoise and the moss will keep it too humid? And this has confused me as ive read about shell pyramiding and one of the ways to combat this is to have humidity and its one of the reasons they burrow in the wild! Am i wrong? Other wise he seems very settled enjoys his food walks around often.
