Help !! My husband just found this guy in the middle of the street as he was driving by !
What do we do ? Soak her/him in water? What food should we give her ? We have a desert tortoise but don’t know if it’s the same kind. How old will you say she is ? ( hand of my 11 year old for reference)

I believe it is a Dt and most likely illegal for you to have taken in. If they are native to your area you need to put it back. Not only illegal to take from the wild, they shouldn't be taken from the wild.
@Yvonne G can confirm if it is a DT I think

That's good and okay to remove them from danger, although some authorities would probably tell you not too. But then move them to the side of the road they were facing and let them go. Only if a native species.

That is NOT a DT. Do not release it into the wild.

Give it a warm soak for 20-30 minutes and give it a light brushing with a soft tooth brush or something similar. Also show us the plastron.

Agree! And give us a good closeup shot of the complete top and front margins of the shell and head and legs of the tortoise.

She was in the same spot we’ve left her .
I Called our local organization and was told unless she was in a construction site there’s nothing they can do . I’ll be posting flyers to see if someone lost her in our street. She so little .

Looks lie a very, very dry leopard tortoise. Probably belongs to one of your neighbors, and is ILLEGAL to release it (eve n though it was found outside).

Sorry you released it before Yvonne had a chance too confirm. Incase you didn't know, when someone does this @ in front of a members name, that gives that member an alert to check out a particular thread/post. Some of us will do this to call in who we consider an expert to confirm something. Best too always wait for that expert too come in before making any changes. Sorry i didn't make that clear before you put it back. Luckily he waited for you. I guess he knew he didn't belong.
Good luck either finding it's owner or with your new friend.

Could that be a possible hybrid? It has the head, legs, and shape of a desert tortoise, but those dots on the scutes look like a leopard. Very unique. Quite a find!
I agree head and legs like a DT but carapace kind of looks like a leopard?

I agree. Legs and head doesn't look like a leopard too me either but a DT. The spots are very different.

The head, leg scales and shape look DT, but I've never seen a DT with carapace spots like that.

@Will
@zovick

Anyone have an idea? I thought maybe a leopard based on the spots, but those leg scales and shape don't match.
