Hey guys..
so I’m a little bit pissed off. The other day I picked up a box of spring mix for my Russians and opened it today to find literally ALL BABY ARUGULA. I know there supposed to be a varied diet and I’ll work on getting them something else, but I just wanted to make sure a few meals of this straight won’t do too much harm? I’m so mad!

Also, it’s that season again and my local supermarket has a variety of squashes!
Can Russian tortoises have acorn squash, turban squash, or carnival squash? I want to get them a pumpkin for sure though. And how would I prepare a squash for them to eat?

Thank you for any help!

She’ll be fine. Wild Russians eat more brassicas (which include arugula) than some other types of tortoises. I make sure my tortoise has access to some type of brassica just about every week.

Yes, they can have winter squash, although in moderation, just like summer squash. She can’t have a whole pumpkin!

I just cut off a thin slice, including rind, and hand it over. She’s not going to have any difficulty with the rind. Some people feed chunks of an inch or so, which is also fine. It takes my tort a little longer to manage a thick chunk but she’ll keep at it until she does. :)
