Question: What Species Is My Tortoise?

So, today I got my first tortoise and the guy that gave it to me said it was a greek female tortoise... Now, when I was there I picked her up and looked at her behind where I saw a keyhole shape and the plastron was shaped like two long bands, which then sort of convinced me he was wrong about the species.

But after looking at both Russians and Hermanns, I am more inclined to think that it's either one (though I'm leaning more towards Hermanns).

I've got two photos which I admit aren't very good, blurry and stuff. But I hope you'll be able to help me determine which species I've got, so I can care for her in the best possible way!

Thanks in advance! :).

P.S, any tips and suggestions as to how I should care for her is appreciated! Though, I have read the care sheets for the Greeks and for the Hermanns.

It's definitely not a Russian, and it almost looks like a male. Someone can clarify the species/sex, as I have trouble telling.

That's good to know, and I was a bit uncertain about the sex as well. The only thing he had to suggest they were all females, was that the humping didn't produce eggs.

It’s a Hermann’s tortoise, a male and it’s actually a hybrid between the eastern and western subspecies of Hermann’s. Please do not breed this animal.

After reading more about it, I thought it was a hybrid too. Shame really, but nice to have it confirmed.

Don't worry, I will NOT breed this animal.

I didn't really want this guy`s tortoises as he didn't know much about them, but I also could not just leave him there.

P. S He had three, but I don't have space for three :(. Hope the others get a decent home too.

I think you're bang on. Slight concave underside tells me its male. Would be better if I could see a pic from behind as the shell bends over the tail on a male.

Or they could just wait a few years and see if they start fanning and humping their computer chair leg, shoes or feet if you're sat still long enough.

Either way it looks Hermanny.
