THANK YOU! Does this also mean that the ceramic heat lamps are also bad?

They both can dessicate the shells, but that's if the tort basks right under it for long periods of time without being soaked and or misted often to keep the shell moist. You can still use them and a che is recommended with a thermostat. If you don't want to use a Che then the best option is a radiant heat panel. That's the preferred option, but most can use them with their enclosures so were use a Che on a thermostat.

Is this the "bad" kind of bulb?
Those aren't "bad" as in harmful, but they do contribute to pyramiding because they are so hot, and the type of light they emit is very desiccating. I prefer a combo of a low wattage regular flood bulb and a HO style florescent tube for light and UV.

No. They make a different IR wavelength that is not as desiccating, and because they emit no light, tortoises are less apt to park directly under them. I use them in enclosures housing smaller tortoises to maintain ambient heat. Always with a thermostat controlling them.

OK - I'm getting rid of the UVB bulb that I've been using because Chuck Norris already has pyramiding and I don't need it to get worse. I have seen you say a couple of places that Sulcatas don't need as much UVB as I thought. I mean, I think you said that if there's quite a bit in summer, it's ok not to have so much in winter. I live in Dallas, CN (6 years old) doesn't like to go outside so much in winter (today is ok, 73 and sunny). So do you think I don't need a UVB supplement? Just a regular flood bulb would suffice?

Chuck Norris the Tortoise. It was going to be Morris the Tortoise, but I was convinced to go with Chuck Norris until I could come up with something else. I never did...
And she only has 3 legs (one was amputated). And we think she's a girl.

Most excellent indeed. However an installed and operating one in a photo would be better:rolleyes:.

I don't have access to Photoshop or my other photography editing software with Windows 10 updates messing my computer up. Soxi will make one in Photoshop when I can. :)
