I was looking into possibly adopting a snake-necked turtle. Does anyone know anything about them? Are they aggressive? Can they be kept with a turtle of a different species?

Would that be the same as the African side-neck turtle?? I don’t know anything about either (if it’s not the same) but I saw one for the first time a couple weeks ago in a pet store.. pretty cool looking critter.. they had him in with a red ear, not that that means anything! Interested to see what u turn up:)

@Tom ... what are your thoughts on chelodina longicollis? I was reading up a bit about those. Thanx in advance.

If you want to get into snakenecks, M rugosa would be a good starter. They are the hardiest and easy to care for, followed by the longicollis. I've had both and had very little issues with them (health wise).

Snakenecks aren't "beginner" turtles, but it sounds like you're pretty good about doing your research first.

All the best with your turtle plans. Keep us informed and post pics when you get one, please. I love these turtles.
