I heard its easy to grow wheat grass, but can my sulcata eat it ? Could it be a main part of his diet is what I'm trying to ask since it's winter here in Kentucky for the next month or so?
Do you have juice/juicing bars in your area? Jamba Juice or Juice It Up? If yes, ask the manager very nicely and they'll give you the used wheat grass trays. They sprout over and over and the black plant trays can be reused if you don't have outside land available.
I'm thinking that you don't want the wheat grass to be "...the main part of his diet." It surely can be part of his diet, but you want to ensure that your sully has a good complete variety of greens, grasses, weeds, salad mix and mazuri.
Could someone share what is the process of growing wheat grass!I don't want to speak for Maro, but for us, I have made a point to grow as many types of grasses as possible. I figure, just as different lettuces serve different purposes and tastes for us, different grasses would do the same for Odin. Plus, in the wild you are not going to find an entire field of one type of grass. This winter I have about 5-7 types going right now and just added four more that I am waiting to sprout, and that doesn't even get into the other weeds and plants I am growing for him.
I believe wheatgrass needs to be sprouted before planting, or at least to get good results. It's an easy process, just time consuming. Just put as many seeds as you want to sprout in a bowl or jar with enough room for 2-3x the amount of water as seeds. Fill it up with cool water and let them soak until they sprout, changing the water every 10-12 hours. I believe it takes a few days. When they are sprouted, rinse them and disperse them over your medium. I don't think you have to cover pre-sprouted seeds with additional medium, just lightly press them into the soil, but you could sprinkle a tiny amount over them. Be gentle, you don't want to damage the baby roots. Beyond that it's the same as any seeds, keep them warm and moist in a sunny location.Could someone share what is the process of growing wheat grass!
What percentage of the diet would you suggest be made up of wheat grass?
I sprout them in only water for 10 days. I rinse twice a day.I just planted a bunch, put the seeds right in the soil in the seed tray, watered lightly and have 6" worth already. I didn't sprout them.. think I planted them a week ago this past Friday!
