When we got little Kame, he was supposed to be a lot smaller than he is. The place I bought him from is apparently notorious for giving people tortoises different ages than what they bought (found this out after). I’m trying to figure out exactly how old he is. Any ideas?
I just bought a scale today and he weighs 2.2 pounds.

From what I've read around here, weights can vary greatly. If it's any help, mine weighed 2.0 lbs at 2 1/2 yrs old
That was 6-2-2010. He now weighs 124 lbs 12-8-2018

The diet depends on the tortoise. If you check out the care sheets for your species you will find some great info. Also, you might want to post a new thread with your questions so this one isn't being hijacked.

No way to know the age by size. Growth rates can vary wildly and for a wide variety of reasons.

I don’t mind. I was curious what your answer would be. Lol.

Like Tom said there are many factors that play into the weight and size of each tortoise. A good varied diet, some mazuri for sure, and the husbandry of the tortoise. Hatchlings in a proper closed chamber in monsoon conditions typically grow faster than a dry raised tort. If you want your tort to grow big and grow fast them spoil your tort. Give your tort the optimal care and it will thrive. If you're wanting diet
information then you can find specifics in the care sheets. But a varied diet of broad leaf greens, grasses, weeds, edible flowers, and cactus is what you're looking for. Download the tortoise table app for all the weeds, flowers, grasses, cactus and succulents that are safe and toxic for torts.

He’s that big and only .6 pounds? How is mine the size of my palm and 2.2 pounds?
Your right! I got the time wrong. Don't know when that pic was taken. But I do know he was .6 lbs when he was given to me and was told he was about a year ild at that time.
