so today I left to do some errands and when I got back my house smelled like burnt wood and I realized it could be squirts home. And I ran and sure enough the heated lamp burnt the plastic cover I was using to keep the humidity in. Thank God it didn't catch on fire, but there was alot of smoke trapped in her enclosure and when I grabbed her I saw that she was in her shell. So now there is a huge home in the plastic and the humidity is back down :/ and I am scared to have anything around the lamp because of it burning. So any other suggestions to keep the humidity high?
Omg scary. I'm glad that's all it did. And didn't burnt down the houseOmg something like that happend to me too. I was working on my hedgehogs enclosure. I got done. Then my house smelled really gross. So I went and saw my little brother left my heat lamp on the carpeted floor. It melted my floor alot now I have a big ol hole in my carpet.. luckily baby tortoise wasn't hurt tho.
No I made a whole and I put foil around the lamp so it wouldnt burnt the plastic and the lamps was super close to the plastic but it was fine. The thing was I clamped it to some wood so the light can literally face straight down into the hole so the humidity can get trapped and I guess it wasn't gripped on right and that's y it fell.I'm sorry that this happened, but I have to ask. In your previous picture of your enclosure did you leave the heat lamp above the plastic and turned on?
I'm going to have to make something like this to hold the lamps straight down because it's at an angle right now and it's not keeping the humidity level where it should be so that's what I'm going to have to buy. That is a storage plastic box with a green house tent with pvc pipes custom cut to carry the basking lamp and the CHE

Yes, unfortunately the clamps on all these lamps are horribly designed. Mine did the same thing except I didn't have them clamped. I put the plastic over the lamps and help it up with the clamps. The clamps feel toward the ceramic fixture, but it's still holding up the plastic. No I made a whole and I put foil around the lamp so it wouldnt burnt the plastic and the lamps was super close to the plastic but it was fine. Do u have a platform were the lights are sitting or are they hanging from the clamps?Yes, unfortunately the clamps on all these lamps are horribly designed. There are many things you can do. The best would be to build a canopy cover (greenhouse cover).
Also I have a plastic shower curtain that I cut out that worked good keeping in the humidity so I've been using that. But I need to figure out how to hang the lights from the inside to close off everything.Yes, unfortunately the clamps on all these lamps are horribly designed. It's actually the same as what I posted with out the heat light on the side. I got really sick and unable to work on his home. I'm actually looking on how to hang the clamp light so it can tramp the heat better. Can you post a pic of your updates on your enclosure? Just to see how you have the curtain. As of right now you may have to rig up a frame over the enclosure like in the previous pics posted by the other members. But post a pic and we can go from there.
I used a big C-Clamp to make it really low. And the temp is actually good and the humidity is at 80 again. During the day the temps are 90 with both lights on.Can you post a pic of your updates on your enclosure? Just to see how you have the curtain. Okay I just bought a light stand for the c clamp light so I'll use it on the UVB light. Pictures to show after I get it thank you so muchThe lamp over the shower curtain isn’t providing heat or UV. it’s also still a fire risk. There are many threads that show how people attach everything under the shower curtain safely without clamps. Look at pvc structures!!

I did it. Sorry barely getting back to you guys. @drew54 @daniellenc . So I used a big CC clam on the box of his home. Then I used a clamp lampand I placed it on the actual c clamp to grip better and not fall. And I cut a hole in the shower curtain to place down the heat lamp. I wrapped foil around the heat light so it wouldnt burn the curtain. Looks like it worked so. Tomorrow will show pictures
