(A note of explanation: I've merged all four of your threads into just this one. Less confusing to read it all in one place and we all can help you here instead of all over the Forum)

About naming opposite genders, a unisex name is a good idea. I know a class tortoise named Dribble (from Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing) and we thought she was a boy at first, but after I took her home for the summer and watched my female and her battle it out, we knew she was female.

Today I bought a beautiful baby Herman tortoise and I want to be as prepared as possible so here I am :) hi, so for one he doesn’t have a name, he is around one so not too sure if he is a he and not a she but whatever. Please leave name suggestions?? Also diet, I have some kale and other salad-y foods but I’m not 100% sure what he can’t eat, so some help with that and finally I know tortoises aren’t exactly very loving and excitable pets but do you think that he will warm up to me?

Thanks if anyone decides to respond :)
Hi! The tortoise t
I did buy him from a pet shop and that’s the age they told me he was, i’ll post some pictures in a minuet. Also thanks for the advice I’ll look it up, what would you suggest he should eat??
This is the link for the tortoise table. it gives you a good idea of what he can and can't eat. https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/

Helllooo, just a quick update, I’ve upgraded my lights and got the temperature gun, he seems happy. He’s started to burrow which I assumed was normal behaviour but I’m just checking :) :tort:image.jpg

hellooo, just an update, tiko is doing amazing! i think he’s starting to settle in more which is all thanks to you!! i did go into this a little blind which, i understand, was my own fault but i am so so happy that everyone here has been so supportive and helpful!!

although i think tiko is starting to feel at home i still have some questions...
so tiko is starting to bury himself, is that normal and if so what does it mean??
also i was wondering how much a one year old tortoise is supposed to weigh around?

that’s all really :)
