Hi all. So I have been experiencing SP for the past year. I get them once every one or two weeks. And I always break out of it. Coz it inflicts fear on me :l

Has anyone also experienced sleep paralysis? And if you do, do you break out of it or just let it be? I've heard if you let it be you will experience lucid dreams after falling asleep. Is that true? Personally, I still get LD without SP.

Hm. Speaking of which, I wonder how tortoises react when they experience SP. (SP is "caused" by REM sleep which animals can have too)

I'd like to see what you guys have in mind about this topic.

I used to get SP frequently. It has been awhile since I have had SP. There are two times that i remember being so scared once i could wake up/move I took off running out of my apartment.

When I have more time after class I’ll come
Back and type the stories to them.

My mom used to tell me that I would have those dreams because I was living wrong, but that wasn’t the case.

Have you tried to just let it be? If so, Does it wear off itself or it keeps going until you are fast asleep?

I never just let it be and see what happens. 9/10 what was happening in the dream was scaring the **** out of me. Like a figure standing over me, or a figure peeking in my room from the door and started to walk towards me.

Hm so that's the so-called SP demon. I personally don't believe in such things. Instead, I think it's all psychology. Human brains like to see anything human-like, for instance, clothes, or even just a standing box as actual beings, that's natural. This was acquired by our ancestors in order to survive out in the wild. It triggers our fight-or-flight thingy (forgot what it's really called lol).

Anyway, what do you think caused you to have SP. For me, I think it's just coz I sleep late XD

Do you have a Fitbit or iWatch to monitor your sleep. They will break down the different types- Deep, Light, REM and keep track of your heart rate. Also do you take any supplements and how late is your last caffeine. My Neurologist made me a believer that good sleep takes hard work and strict schedules. Wishing you the best

One time it happened the “demon” was standing in the doorway to my room looking at me and when I would look at it, it would move back then peek back at me then finally it felt
Like it was on top of me.
I knew it was a dream I kept telling my self
To wake up and move but I couldn’t. But soon as I woke up I ran out of my apartment to my brothers apartment in the same complex. I left my door wide open when I ran out lol.

The other time it was an empty apartment. We were moving out and decided to have one last get together. I was tired so I went to sleep on the floor while everyone went to another friends apartment down the street. I was asleep on the floor and it felt like the thing was holding me down to where I couldn’t move or talk/yell. I just remember repeating something about Jesus or the Bible and what felt
Like minutes passed I was able to wake up. I did the same thing took off running down the street in only sweat pants every time I passed a car I would look in between it to make sure there wasn’t something there. The dream felt so real. I ran about half a mile and found my brother and some friends driving back to my apartment.

I couldn’t tell you what caused my SP but I’m sure partying and staying up all night didn’t help.

I experienced it when I was coming off of the antidepressant Lexapro.

The dream felt real coz of fear, same thing, fight-or-flight. It makes you more cautious to your surroundings, and in your case, make a run for it.

Well personally I don't think I need those monitor things. And no I don't take supplements, and rarely caffeine, from tea.

The thing is, the more SP you've experienced, the less paranoid you are. Though I can't seem to let it be coz the feeling is terrible which makes me having to break out of it.

By the way, I've heard a case where this person got SP, felt the demon was beating him, then the next morning when he wakes up, there are actual bruises on his arms, legs. I don't know if he made it up though..
