My tortoise has an eye infection and was being medicated in summer, T decided to hibernate early and over the Christmas period I woke him/her up but the medication has expired but there’s still at least a months use left in them!

Is there any way of getting more without the costly expense of returning to the vet for a checkup as they charged over £70 for the last visit:(

If there’s no way around of course I will go to the vet for new medicine for T and pay the large expense as his health means more to me than my money

If the medication has been stored per recommendations on the bottle it is very likely still good.

If the med is in a prescription bottle, not the manufacture's, some dispensaries will put an early expiration date on it. Even if still in the manufacture's original packaging, that time represents more of a 'best by' date.

This as a medicine management practice has come out over the controversy associated with 'epi-pens'. As long as a refrigerated medicine or low light exposure medicine has not been exposed to the sun for days on-end. it should still be good.

You might also see if you can find mail-order by the compound name. Many drugs used for reptiles in the US are also sold from tropical fish, and can be dispensed as such via mail order.

Thank you I will continue to use it then!

I have looked online for the medication but it requires a prescription so id still need to go to the vet I’m not sure if getting a prescription and ordering the medication myself will make it cheaper but I will soon find out once I need more !

Thanks again:)
