These pics are for input. Will this work ok for the indoor habitat co tai we for redfoot?

hi. I am getting my first red foot from red foot ranch. I am picking him up. Hopefully Bill and I can meet this week.

My sister had tortoises and I loved them especially her red foot. Am very excited about getting mine!

Wallace D Tortoise is my soon to be tortoise’s name My Dad is Wallace D and he died unexpectedly in January. My tortoise is named in honor of Dad.

I live in SW Florida and look forward to getting to know y’all and learn from you.

Hello and welcome! Is your new redfoot a baby, juvenile or adult? Just curious.
I think that pool thing looks like it would work. Maybe some other members have a better idea though.
This forum is very helpful when getting started. A lot of us (me included) bought equipment in the beginning that wasn't right. I recommend telling us what else you have or what you plan on getting to avoid all the mistakes. Stuff like lamps, heat sources, uvb light, substrate..
Here is some good info:

Be sure to post pics of Wallace D when he arrives!

Size wise it looks ok, however, tortoises dig at the walls and in the corners, so if the sides are flexible vinyl, they may not hold up very long.

Thanks so much for your warm welcomes and input!

I am getting two now...talked via text with Bill and getting two of the jumbo size babies - both redfoot

I will be keeping them inside. Initially in the pool but eventually in a raised wooden home.

What do I need to get re lighting heating etc? I don’t know if I need:

Ceramic heat lamp
Tropical tortoise double light (zoomed)
Single UVB

Or combo???

Also I think I need a box they can hide in, a shallow water pool to soak and drink, a food bowl, a basking stone, mulch and some plants. What kinds of live plants are good?

Any other suggestions?

I believe I will be getting them on Thursday.

I would not get two. Tortoises should not be kept in pairs, so they will have to be separated.

You can keep them in groups of three or more, though.

Oh! Didn’t know that. Why can they live together in 3’s but not 2’s please?
Good question. My answer would be that if one of them is feeling antsy or displeased for any reason, he can't make up his mind which of the others he should take it out on, so he does nothing. But that's just my idea which is worth zero in this case.

Be careful with the vinyl and heat. May not be the safest. Also agree with above in that the tortoise may dig and tear up the vinyl.

I bought the used coffee table (large) today to raise the habitat so my shih tzu cannot play with the tortoise.

I will make a wooden habitat to replace the vinyl but will start out with this for now.

It is a west-facing window in living room. I keep a/c on almost all the time so it is about 76 in here day and night.

I am really confused about lighting. Please share your thoughts. What will work best for this habitat for a redfoot?

I know a uvb/uva. Do I need the long fluorescent style or the round kind? Also a heat source (ceramic heat bulb???). What is recommended or have you found works please?
