I cant tell u if he's a Male or not but he or she is definitely a beautiful turtle [emoji16]

It's got an ever so slight indentation on the plastron, and a fairly long tail. I'm goin' with male. Sometimes when there are two males in a box turtle group the subordinate male will not have strong male characteristics.

I agree with Yvonne , and I also think the presence of a more dominant animal can possibly repress hormones responsible for male traits ….. from what you show here , I think "he" certainly has more male traits than female , the shape of the carapace , the amount of color , the concave plastron I think I see , the rear claws , the flaring of the marginals all would make me think male , the eye color says female , but it is a pretty immature turtle at 5yrs ….….. as Colleen says ,seeing the underside would be helpful .

I would say male. The coloring, scute flaring, plastron indentation and the vent location indicate male. Look for the eyes to start turning red in the spring in years to come.
