~ Yes, simply put a pad in the dirt about 1/4 the way in and it should grow naturally. We see the most significant growth after a rainy day. I then pick all pads on the sides and let the straight ones grow and continue to grow taller. After a year or so they should be about three to five feet with much continual grow producing new pads.

~ I planted these one year ago starting with a single pad. They have been picked and trimmed two or three times so far.

~ I have literally thousands of cactus pads planted on numerous pieces of property i own, always a surplus of fresh green cactus pads available.

Thanks now I understand. Mine are growing tall and wide. So I need to pick the sides and slim them down. Can I maintain the plants to about 5 ft?

~ I do, i keep them between 5 and 6 foot. I found the more i harvest, the more they produce new pads. I keep them trimmed on the sides, i think this helps them produce more at the higher levels.....easier to pick and less easier for other critters to get them.....

Thanks will start trimming. How long do the pads last after being picked?
