Help...
I wasn’t home when the bug guy came and my son said he sprayed my outdoor enclosure. My Little guy (Russian) is inside right now. I figure he needs to stay inside for awhile. How do I make his yard safe again?

Please wait for someone who knows more than me, but...

If he only sprayed the perimeter, it could still drift, so...I would cut any vegetation down as low as possible.

Collect all the cuttings and dispose of them. Then I would water it in. Completely saturate it twice a day for several days.

Hopefully that would do it.

But again, let a more members offer ideas first.

I'm so sorry this happened. I'd have a talk with the bug guy, and maybe post a sign in the yard.

Was the tortoise inside when it happened?

The only way to answer this is to know what chemical was used and what the "normal" residual effect will be in your area. Some have little or no residual effect and others last for months. Personally, I'd make a new above ground enclosure somewhere half in the shade and bring in fresh new substrate, and only put the tortoise out there during favorable weather. Your 100+ days that will be arriving soon would not be favorable weather in an above ground enclosure where the tortoise can't escape the heat.

I'd fire the bug guy. I don't like toxic chemicals applied anywhere near my house. I don't want the residual effects on me or my family. I'd much rather deal with the bugs.

You would need to find out what was sprayed. There are so many different 'bug sprays' that may be used, or even mixes of them. Some have a very short period of effectiveness, while other have a long lasting residual effect.

What is the nature of someone spraying in the first place? Are you in a HOA or town home or something where it is out of your control? If it's in your control, then WTH?

For future a raised enclosure that you can secure away from spraying, if spraying must happen, is a good option. Otherwise maybe no spraying in the future, by next season/year, there should not be much is any residual. That said, ground termite pesticide applications are guaranteed for three years. . .

See sentence number 1, "you would need to find out what was sprayed."

Maybe the spray was really deadly and they are all goners.
Seriously, the OP may need a bit more time for some reason or another - it's just a few days since the first post.

I understand how you feel. But at the end of the day, the tort is theirs, nothing we can do if they don't want to listen.

Maybe they are all stricken with grief and in mourning and feeling too bad to come back just yet.
Let's give them a bit. I would really like to know how this went!
