Hey all! I’m new to tortoises and looking to get a Russian Tortoise. I’m located in Huntington, West Virginia. Where exactly does everyone get their tortoises? I’m looking into a 55 gallon tank for my turtle. Plus the UVA light and also curious to what foods everyone feeds their Russians? All info is welcome! Thanks a ton!

Welcome go to species and find the type of tort you want. Click on that and the first group of threads will be about care of the tort.
Read those and ask any questions you have.
Note that a Russian tort needs about a 4'x8' enclosure.

Hi and welcome!

I'm so glad (for your and your wallet's sakes) that you've come to us before buying supplies. An aquarium is totally not suitable for a Russian tortoise.

If you're thinking of buying a baby russian tortoise, we have some reputable members who raise and sell them. Take a look here:

https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/breeders-list.64666/

Then read the care sheet that biochemnerd put together for us:

https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/b...or-other-herbivorous-tortoise-species.107734/

If you're planning to get an older russian (you can find them frequently for sale or free on places like craigslist.com), then you'll need a much bigger enclosure than an aquarium. We have a good care sheet for older Russians here:
