What’s likely to cause illness/respiratory infection in horsefield tortoises and how can they be prevented? They’re not ill now and I’d like to keep them that way.

I'm by no means an expert, but proper feeding and hydration, keeping temp & humidity parameters in their target zone, and avoiding stressors will probably get 90% of the job done.

Allowing them to get cold and wet. But most times when you see a runny nose it's really not an infection, but rather something stressful has happened to the tortoise - moving enclosures, another tortoise added to the enclosure, brumation, etc.

The obvious of what Yvonne says, kind of. Keep them warm and as dry as you can, not always easy where you live.
