I found this red eared slider upside down off shore of a dirty lake so i decided to pick it up bring it home with another slider i have. Ive kept him for about 2 weeks now but it seems like he's still not active. He do still eat but constantly on the basking spot most of the time throughout the day. He'll only swim when theres food or sleep.

His eye though, it looks swollen. Correct me if I'm wrong and his shell is badly infected.

Please give any tips so that he'll get into tip top shape. Im worried about it.

Sliders are aquatic turtles. They are only able to eat in the water. If he's staying under the heat all the time, the rest of your enclosure may be too cold. What are the temperatures in the cool area, the warm area and in the heat?

Exactly what I was thinking - what's the water temperature? You likely want it in the high 70's for a RES.

I have not kept sliders myself, so I don't know w what's up with his shell.

If you post his pictures and questions in the Health thread, I bet more people will chime in!
You are a very good person to want to help this guy![emoji2][emoji173]️

Because he was upside down for who knows how long, he may have a respiratory infection. It might help if you can get some antibiotics into him. He is just a young turtle, and they are pretty hardy. Good luck

(the shell is nothing to worry about. Looks like old, healed scrapes)

How is he doing today? I remember that as a child I had some of these, and their eyes almost always got swollen up, still don't know why. Thought maybe it was the chlorine in the tap water I kept them in.

He is doing just fine! Better than before. But for me the eye is still swollen, or maybe im just paranoid. Loves the basking place. That's him on top of my other slider Screenshot_2019-04-18-23-44-44-01.jpeg
