Hi all,

Was wondering how people choose to feed their Hermanns. I know some people who set a variety of choices out with each day, but there are also some who rotate (example: dandelions on day 1, spring mix on day 2, mazuri on day 3, etc.)

What does everyone here do? Is there any benefit to either way? I've only had my Voldetort a few days and tried to entice him to eat dandelion greens with some mazuri mixed in but the little bugger just ate around the dandelions. Seems to like spring mix well enough.

I imagine it would be hard to feed only one tortoise a variety. I have many, many tortoises, so it's easy to provide a daily variety of foods. For example, today I 'm offering the larger tortoises a bag of collards, a bag of Santa Barabra Salad (endive, escarole and radichio), a head of romaine, a tub of mushrooms, some colored bell pepper, some zuchini, some mullberry leaves, some grape leaves, hollyhock, prickly lettuce and grass clippings.

It's ok to buy one or two items and feed it until gone, then buy something different next time. And to that item add edibles from the yard outside.

I switch between escarole, dandelion, collected weeds, and mazuri with hibiscus/albutilon/rose of sharon leaves and flowers when available. I don't have a schedule, just give what I have on hand.

I have a base, made from whole case greens purchases, and then make it a bit different from one day to the next.

So 5 heads of escarole, five heads of romaine, a head of kale, a head of raddiccio, The romaine and escarole are the base. Next day I may use collards, and spring mix instead of the kale and radiccio, or use black kale one day and red kale the next.

So there is a steady base of greens and a slight different mix daily.
