Hi,
I’m considering getting a tortoise or 2 and figured I’d better do plenty or research to make sure I make good choice for me and my household and any potential tortoise friends. I look forward to reading lots of posts and learning as much as I can to help me make my choices. Thanks for having me!

Yes, I am a vet. However, I work on cats, dogs, and horses. I am not an exotics vet and have very little experience with them. I do know of a couple facilities that do regularly care for 3xotics, so would have some place to take them when needed. I do believe that any critter taken in deserves someone knowledgeable to care for them. I appreciate the link to look at, and I’m excited to be looking into this option.

Welcome to the forum. It is nice to have vets on here to learn about torts. We need to educate more vets on the proper care so we have someone knowledgeable to help these animals. Glad to have you aboard.

Hi, and welcome to the TFO!

You've come to the very best place for rock-solid advice and info. It is our collective experience that many vets just don't know much about tortoises and water turtles. And asking pet shops about care for them is a disaster in the making.

Dogs, cats, horses, pigs, cows, birds, snakes, (and for some members), bugs and spiders...we love 'em all!

Glad you have you here! [emoji2]

Cheryl, I’m 40 minutes SE of Columbus, near Lancaster. We’re on a farm in the country. Of course with our weather any tortoise would need to be inside a lot of the time, but we do have room for an outside enclosure if we would be so inclined for warmer months.

I’m in c-bus. Welcome to the forum, it is the best place in the internet for Tortoise care information. I keep Kinixys- hingeback tortoises.

Awesome 2turtletom! I grew up in Columbus and moved out a bit after getting into my career. Don’t have to travel and of the busy freeways to get to work everyday. It’s good to “meet” you, and nice to know there is someone nearby if I need advice as well.
