I've had this 7 year old (so the previous owner said) for over a month now. He was in an enclosed area which was big but he could of used a much bigger area. So now in my yard he has roughly 3000sqft to roam. Lots of grass, weeds, dirt and hiding spot. So just today I noticed his shell has a different shade all around. Almost like a ring. And it seems to look like new shell material I should say lol! I don't really know how to explain it so I attached pictures. Does this mean he's growing?? Yes, that is new growth between the scutes. But for a tortoise that size I would expect it to take a lot longer than the last month to see that much.

Depends on the previous care and diet, but that's new growth. I would put boards or something along the bottom of your fence to keep the tort from tearing up the fence if it tries to escape.

Yes, that's my next project. They seem to pace along the fence for most of the day. Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, he's a big guy. I actually thought he was full grown but I just all the space he has now is definitely a good thing [emoji846]
