Hello everyone,

Just was looking for some advice on my leopard tortoise.
I have had my tort for a week on Saturday. He/she is 10 months old now.
I have noticed since being home we seem to be active late morning after I have gone to work and then at lunch time when I come back to check on him/her they are already back into the hide resting and that is that for the rest of the day.
Is this normal?

Probably normal for a youngin. Mine are up and active in the morning. Nap. Eat and then Around 3-5 head to the hide. Lol

Thank you so much, I guessed that as a young tort it wouldn’t be active all day but don’t want to mistake what I think to be a healthy growing baby for a not very well tort!

They have a very low survival rate as babies in the wild. So they stay low and hidden when not soaking or bathing.
I feel In captivity after they see there are no threats, and you are the provider of food, they will get a little bolder. I like to hand feed a few pieces of food, then lay their food down. Now they follow the hand everywhere. Can’t even grab a turd without them hauling butt to my hand lol!

Some pics of your tort and Enclosure will also tell us a lot. How’s your temps and humidity?
The best things you can read are the Caresheets for your species. The info is gold.

I will have to take some photos this evening as I haven’t taken any since the weekend. I have ordered a humidity monitor that’s due to be with my by the end of the week. The temp is set to reach 30 degrees under the basking light as this was recommended when I got my tortoise at the weekend. I spray water in there usually twice a day to try and help keep the humidity up in the enclosure.
Is what I’m doing correct?
