Hi guys! So I am in a bit of a weird situation right now. I recently took in a new tortoise from someone looking to rehome/surrender him and he’s in a rough shape right now. They originally thought he was a 8 year old sulcata tortoise, but he is DEFINITELY not lol. I’ve been able to narrow him down to being a Mediterranean tortoise, but want to make sure he is what I think he is.
He is pretty square in shell size being 6”x6” and a very flat plastron. He looks to be a hermann’s but he has almost a completely black plastron. He has a center scale on his head like a Greek, but he doesn’t really seem to look like one (that might just be from poor environment). I know for sure he is a mature male since he’s got a nice long curved tail. Is it possible he is some type of Russian tortoise?
Here’s some pics of him. He’s currently soaking right now to try and get some of his shedding skin off.
