Hi, I took Juliet out of her soak tub where she was in warm water for almost 30 minutes. And it looks like possible prolapse - but not sure. She's 3 years old and I never saw this before. She did poop about 8 hours ago. She gets fruit regularly in her daily diet of greens, mushrooms and some other vegetables. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

You may have yourself a Julio instead of Juliet. Run some water over the area. Could be he’s discovering himself. Water always encourages mine to “clean up & put away” . When he first discovered his maleness, he would run it out every bath and leave it sometimes for 2 hrs.. he did that for about 3months or so.

Thank you EllieMay. She's definitely female as her egg was incubated at a higher temperature. Vicki at Tortoise Yard does this with all her eggs. I think it's the beginning of a prolapse and will be making an appointment with the reptile vet this morning

Well I hope it goes well. I will be anxious to see how it turns out. Good luck!

Doesn't look like a normal male flashing to me. I think a vet visit would be best idea. Best of luck @MysticCaribou

** Update ** They'll take x-rays & test her poop for parasites or infection. Then she's headed into surgery where they will move the prolapse back in, and stitch it up. The prolapse was small and could have been much worse. Dr. Barten did say that I did a good job with her as she looks healthy otherwise. Clear eyes, shell looks good etc. He's amazed at how large she is for 3 years old. That made me feel a little better. Now just to wait for a phone call to get her and bring her home.

EllieMay & Yvonne G - You guys were absolutely right. Juliet is a male. :) But the inflammation is such that he needed surgery - a couple of stitches on either side. He also has 2 pebbles in his stomach that he'll hopefully pass. But he's been eating and pooping like normal and we're hoping he'll pass them out. He's (cracks me up that he's a he) also going to be on antibiotics for 3 weeks,

I’m sorry that you and your Juliet has to go through that... I know it’s stressful but I’m glad it’s not a worse situation. Hope everything is uneventful from here out and a good recovery. Thanks for all the updates!

I don’t trust vets with any exotic animals anymore.. I can’t help but wonder if they didn’t go gung ho right into surgery and THEN discover she had a penis.. Cover it up with you by throwing out the inflammation diagnosis... just a scary thought!

IMG_5915.JPG He's not doing too well. The Doctor who is very well known and respected as a reptile specialist (Dr. Steven Barten) put a stitch on either side to try to hold it in - but the next day he had a minor prolapse again. So Dr Barten added yet another stitch and gave him a shot of antibiotics ( Fortaz) Plus I'm giving him an antibiotic daily called Baytril. Juliet down't like it too much but did eat it when I mixed it in banana. I'm really worried as he's very swollen - I'll post a photo. And Dr. Barten said he's probably not going to poop until the stitches are out - which he said is ok and to feed him less food than typical. Because to not suture up most of the opening will just cause another potentially more serious prolapse. If the swelling continues and doesn't subside a bit by tomorrow I will call the Doctor again and I hope he'll be in the office. I'm very worried.
