Hi all,

I've had my bearded dragon Smaug for about a year now and noticed he's a bit odd...
Smaug eats crickets, superworms, and leafy greens but won't touch any other fruit or veggie.

I know it isn't a necessity since he does eat his greens but treating him every now and then is hard when he hates the foods that most beardies can't get enough of. I've tried a variety of berries, mango, watermelon, squash, and a bunch of other foods and he just doesn't touch it.

Not a big deal, but try grating or finely mincing the stuff he doesn't like as much and mixing it with the stuff he does like. It will take time, but he'll accept it eventually.

Try grating some butternut squash on top of their leafy greens. I’ve heard it’s a favourite among beardies. My beardies LOVE butternut squash, it’s the first food they pick out of their bowl.
My male beardie likes colorful veggies, while my female is a lot more interested in leafy greens and orange veggies. Maybe your dragon just isn’t interested in other veggies.

Our bearded dragon loves yellow squash and bananas. He won't touch much else, aside from live crickets and horn worms. Bananas are only a treat because I've heard its not too good for them.

You’re right. Bananas should only be fed rarely. They’re high in sugar and phosporus. There are other more healthy options to choose from. Papayas are a great staple fruit and are high in calcium and vitamin C. (Not implying that fruits are a staple food). Others include mangoes, melons and berries.

Here’s a link to which foods can be fed to beardies, and how often: http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
