Hi I'm Tina and my son has an 8 month horsfield. We have been away for two weeks and had a family member look after him . We have been back a day and he has sunk his head into his shell and his eyes are sunken he is not moving. My son's really upset. He has been fed a pepper with seeds. We are not sure if he has died or hibernating.

It takes a lot of preparation to get a tortoise into hibernation, like lowering temps and feeding less..... I don't think it's hibernating...
But idk I am just giving my unprofessional opinion...

Hi Tina and welcome! I'm sorry to say, it sounds like your baby has died. It's not easy for non-tortoise people to take care of baby tortoises. It sounds like your tortoise care giver failed in some way. I doubt the pepper has caused the death. More than likely it was lack of hydration, heat or lack of heat. I'm so sorry this happened. It's hard on kids when they lose their pet.
