I don't remember where I read it a few weeks ago, But someone suggested that sprinkling food grade DE powder on your tortoises food would kill any worms in the tortoise. Has anyone ever heard of that? I know that it kills roaches and other such critters by cutting their exoskeleton and they dehydrate and die. Would it work on intestinal worms? Just curious.

The reasoning is sound, but I might do it in combination with papaya or pumpkin seeds to cover more bases.

Just wondering if you have had fecal exam(s) performed and you know there are worms present? Or, are you just doing this as a preventive measure?

Ive never seen @Tom or @Yvonne G mention this.

Good luck

I've seen videos of some "third world" people that ingested DE and then passed some very nasty parasitic worms from their digestive tract.
I tried, years ago to treat my Redfoot group that had recovered from a successful treatment with PANACUR for Roundworms.
I placed some DE in the food a few times.
The Round worms never came back.
Was it the DE? Or was the PANACUR treatment specified (by my vet)just that successful?
I posted about this a few years back.
The DE certainly did no harm.
Will it eliminate a heavy parasitic load?
I don't know.
I also can't say that it's a good prophylactic measure.
Only that it did no harm.
But there's a lot mentioned on the internet that it DOES work as both a remedy and a preventative measure.
