Not sure yet. I didn't know there were two different kinds until I started doing some research.

Technically, there are 3 different types... The often overlooked Dalmatian hermanns

The easiest way to tell is by price... Westerns cost significantly more.

Hi and welcome.
You are very wise to research first and you have found the best place for up to date information.
It's so much easier if you have your enclosure set up first with the correct temps etc
Check here before you spend too much cash at pet stores, their main concern is profit and they often sell unsuitable equipment like steep water dishes and coiled lamps etc, so we could save you some money and help you buy safe lamps, substrate etc.
