Yeah I'm figuring a couple weeks or so. How long do you think Yvonne? I don't think my temp has been accurate inside the incubator it was thrown together when I found the eggs. It was working very well. But the colder it seems to get outside the less it seems to work. Thinking maybe that's why they're taking so much longer to develop. So we just made a new one, same concept just a little more thought through. Do you think it'll be okay to move them into it? I am testing the temps right now.

Hey guys. Okay I'm super duper confused.. I have humidity up the kazzoo in my incubator. I have 2-3 eggs that have began denting over the last couple days. Moisture isn't helping. Babies are alive and well. Eggs are black inside all I can see is the shadow shifting. Im not sure what else to do here.. Ive tried everything. Upped the humidity first I thought it was because to wet. Put a drier towel under Neath them so they didn't soak up so much water. ( I thought maybe I had it to moist) Now they're denting and I have them in a deli cup with wet paper towels under and over it to try to pop out them dents.. the last few days with these eggs have been horrid. I'm on pins and needles.. any helpers out here? Even any idea?

First and foremost...stop what your doing and just let them be...they are more than likely denting because they are about to pip. Quit handling them, moving them to different containers or media's, just let them do their thing. I know this is exciting and you want to do everything possible to help these little ones hatch but sometimes you just have to let nature do its thing. Box turtle egg shells are paper thin and leathery...the manipulation of the eggs form by the hatchling before pipping is not uncommon. Once I get the vermiculite at the right moisture ratio, I leave the eggs alone until a turtle hatches...or doesn't. I don't even candle my eggs...if they band and calcify white then I just let them be. Take a deep breath and be patient.

The eggs should be kept at around 84F with humidity in the mid 80's. The substrate should be damp to the point at which you cant squeeze out any water. Congratulations on your success in nurturing the eggs to this point. The turtles have developed, are absorbing their yolks and will emerge from the eggs soon. This is such an exciting time!

Oh definitely nerve racking and your not alone;) Trust me...the first time I incubated eggs, I was hatching them with my eyes everyday until they finally hatched and some didn’t hatch. On the other hand we know you had one hatch underdeveloped and more than likely due to the egg having too much moisture. In this case with the denting, I would say they are really close to pipping.

I hope my message didn’t come across stern...just sometimes less is more. This is the 1st year I had all my eggs hatch and all seem healthy. Unfortunately, it’s not always that easy.

Best of wishes and I hope yours come out heathy...I let my hatchlings take their good old time to emerge from the egg...some will take a a week or 2 to remain in the incubator from the time they pip...FYI

Oh thank you very much, no I didn't take it stern. I took it as you've been there [emoji846] yes everyday I check on them pretty much " hatching them with my eyes " lol that was perfect. I'm think they have to be getting very close. They are hitting 80 days on Tuesday.. It is a very exciting event to watch from day one. It was something new and I love it [emoji846] what kinds of turtles or tortoises do you have and or have hatched?

My dream is to live and breathe turtles and tortoises. I would love to someday start breeding them. Always been a dream of mine. And seeing all of you with all your breeding pairs and hatchlings made me want to even more [emoji846]
