Hello all! This is my fist post! Was wondering if anybody might know about using Diatomaceous earth for Sulcatas as an additive to food for parasite prevention or eradication. Use on my dogs n cats not sure if it’s safe for my torts... I have two 80-90 LB adult sulcatas which I believe are males. Thank u in advance!

Food grade diatomaceous earth is safe for tortoises. But I don't know if it actually works as a reliable prophylactic for parasites. I myself have experimented with that after an outbreak years ago and drew no conclusions.
I certainly would not use it as my sole treatment for eradicating an infested animal. And I have no first hand knowledge of any long term effects of ingesting D.E.

Many (most?) Long term, outdoors kept tortoises have some parasites living inside of them. With an otherwise healthy animal, that it not an issue. Treatment is not needed.
With a heavy parasitic load, the parasite has to be identified so that we can select the treatment type. But it's all poison, basically.

There has been a lot of discussion here about natural treatments with Pumpkin seeds, D.E. etc.
The whole discussion and members reporting their experiences is very helpful.
