Okay, I am getting so tired of this! My bulbs keep breaking in this way and others! I don’t ever mess with them after I have put them in. The first two times that it happened, it was because of the dome that I had. It could only hold up to 75 watts and I put 100 watts in it. But this time, I put a 100 watt into a 150 watt dome, yet the same thing happened. Does anyone have any advice?

How long are they lasting before breaking? Are they all breaking like the one in the picture, at the neck/socket? Unless theres a batch of bad bulbs, breaking at the neck/socket is usually caused by over tightening.

I was also thinking over tightening

This one only lasted for about a month and yes, three out of four have done this. The other one had something loose in it. And that could be it. But I’ve only ever put this bulb in once, I’ve never taken it out. So overtime it must have gotten loose. But it also looks like it burned it or something.

My thought was the same as Jaizei. The actual glass bulb is very loosely glued to the base that screws in. If you are overly ambitious on tightening the bulb into the fixture, you break the glue loose quite easily (says one who has done it before).

In addition to the possibility of over tightening, is the dome big enough to protect the bulb from touching anything? In other words, is the actual bulb resting on the cage top, or is the edge of the dome tall enough to keep the bulb hanging free and not toughing anything?

Was also wondering if you are screwing this bulb in and out daily, (to perhaps put a CHE in) or just the initial time. Seems very odd to have so many bulbs breaking.

We’ll get to the bottom of this issue sooner or later!

almost a manufacturers defect. The one thing I can think of is if it is an indoor only light then any conditions outside of perfectly indoor will greatly effect the bulb.

Why not try a CHE bulb. Not a light source but a heat source. I also use a tube bulb for sun
