Hi everybody, just wanted to say hi and introduce Baxter , my baby Sulcata. I have had since may 5 and he is growing like a weed. I do not know his hatch date , but it wa this spring. I didn’t start weighing him until June 6, he was 76g
June 12. 86g
June 15. 90g
June 18. 96g
He seems to be growing every day, I give him daily soaks and he is outside for a couple of hours a day in the hot , humid , Alabama air. I am feeding him a lot of variety of greens, grass, weeds, Mazuri, etc
I really am enjoying him and learning all about these amazing animals. I have always had a love for turtles and tortoises, from my childhood days catching sliders and painted turtles in the Tennessee river, to rescuing hundreds of eastern box turtles from the rural highways of southern Tennessee, as a side note: there really is a lot of variance in the coloration of these eastern box turtles, some of them are really orange and some really yellow. Any way here are some pics of Baxter and his outdoor enclosure. At this time I am only letting him out in the afternoon in the shade.
Thanks to everyone here, whose knowledge and expertise in the care of these animals is priceless to those of us who come into this not knowing what is the right thing to do , but really do want to give our babies the best life we can . So cute! Enjoy. I would just make sure he has a hide or something with shade outside because babies can overheat. My opinion only, wait for an expert ?

That weight is a great sign.

Looks like you might have been sold the wrong bulbs. Check this out:

Beautiful tort. Make sure you give him water and a hide for outside. A large terra-cotta saucer is good for water.

Thanks Sue Ann, I am in the process of building him a sealed indoor enclosure that will at least serve him until he is 1 1/2 to 2 years old, I am also in the process of building a new house and his permanent outdoor enclosure with tortoise house is part of the design. I also have 2 parrots that I have had for 30 years, Merlin, scarlet macaw and Lynard , double yellow head amazon, got em both as babies in 1990 ! They also have an outdoor aviary that is part of the garden design

I have had Baxter out most of the day today, he roamed , ate, slept, I just brought him in for a 30 minute soak, Here he is thinking about a snack of , aloe and Rose of Sharon leaves/blooms .
The temps here in north Alabama are gonna be highs in the 90’s and lows near 70 until October, The humidity here is almost intolerable for humans , just right for a. ?. When would it be ok to start leaving him out day and night , weather permitting?
He has a secure enclosure , shade , water , hide, grass and supplemental feed.
