I have a Russian tortoise of about 2-3 years. I have always thought it was a female but today I found it humping a rock in her enclosure and making squeaky noises, her mouth was open and her head was bobbing up and down. Do females do this or is this definitely a male?

All torts look female when they re juveniles, so you might have a male.
Russians are a scrappy species and females are often territorial and show dominance displays.

Could be either.

Check her tail, if it's stumpy and small she is female. The male Russian Tortoise has a bigger longer one. Just look it up

I think its a female but someone said that she's still a bit too young to be fully certain.
How old is she. Sally was small and my vet said unless you see them come out of the shell you really can't tell Hervet is a specialist in reptiles, turtle ....

Your tortoise is older than two or three years. The russian tortoise is a small species. A two year old russian tortoise would only be about three inches, straight line, front to back. I'd guess your FEMALE russian tortoise is about eight years old and ALMOST full grown.

I knew she was a girl when I bought her. I did a lot of research on the breed
