I’m assuming I’m going to be put down here but I have to ask. Does anyone here have a Sulcata sharing a home / yard with a rabbit ?
I know they live safely alone but I’ve also seen photos of bunnies with tortoises living together.
My kids and I would love another pet and our Chello ( 7 year old Sulcata in an outside insulated buried house with a doggie door to a fenced yard) may not care about the company. Anyone had success with their Sulcata co-habitatating with any type of animal?

I don't have either so I'm not the best person to reply to you, but my main concerns for both would be their poop and different pathogens that they could pass on to each other, and maybe fur left around by the rabbit being ingested by the tort. Also your tort probably won't enjoy sharing his space so could be stressed by it.
Of course these may be totally unfounded concerns but a few things to consider.

I thought about that a couple years ago, but then it occurred to me that the sulcata eats the grass and the rabbit poops and pees on the grass, so I gave up the idea. Now if you want to fence off an area for either of them to be solo, that would work.

Questions are fine. There is no reason why you can't ask.

There are many reasons to not do such a thing. It can go wrong in so many ways. There is also no benefit whatsoever to either animal in such an arrangement. Lots of risk, no benefit.

Best to give each animal its own space.

There are a couple of owners who own a smaller tort & a rabbit, like @Cathie G. Maybe some other sully owners can speak up.

I am a Sulcata keeper and I would not and do not allow any living thing that might poop or pee in my Sulcata pens. That means dogs or cats too. Rabbits would poop and pee in what is the tortoise's food...yuck! If the rabbit had parasites and the Sulcata ate the poop...that would be bad...

It's not likely that rabbit poop would hurt a tortoise if the caretaker knows what they are doing but I can guarantee you I would never ever ever allow a rabbit within a mile of my tortoise!!! A chew toy for a rabbit can be deer antlers, pieces of apple limbs, all kinds of stuff. I will never allow my Tortoise to be a rabbits chew toy. It's no wonder the tortoise wins the race ?

Hello and welcome. ? I tried allowing my tortoise with my bunny once together but sat there and watched. That didn't last long at all. The bunny tried to use my tortoise as a chew toy. Don't feel bad for wanting to know and really it's a good question. My first post might seem like a put down but it's not at all. Sometimes animals can look like they are getting along but they're not. I have a house rabbit and a house cat though. They are more compatible with each other. They actually keep each other entertained within reason.

How big is your sulcata and how big is it's wandering area?

I actually had a pair of bunnies and a tortoise. They weren’t kept in the same enclosure, but my free roaming bunnies were able to hop in and out of the tortoise enclosure. They were potty trained so they only pooped and peed in one area where they were fed in the morning(along with my dogs?), which was not in the tortoise enclosure. They also used the doggie door to come inside the house at night. They coexisted with the dogs nicely and the dogs kept the predators out so we never really had any issues. This was a while back and I know it was a special circumstance. I wouldn’t adopt a bunny now unless I can provide a fully secure, separate and large enough enclosure for them. When my daughter was in kinder, she had to recreate the story tortoise and the hare and video tape it for her school project. We happened to have them both so we made a live animal version of it. I will post it if I find it???

Don't do it. Rabbits are worthless and not worth risking a long lived treasure like a tortoise. Rabbit may want to chew the legs. of the tortoise. Get a cage for the crapping king of the habitat and make him live in his own feces.

The sulcata will most likely not welcome another animal in its space. Especially one that eats the same things. I see competition. I’d say just make a separation in the enclosures.

Our 65-pound Sulcata, Tortuga, peacefully coexists with our free-range rabbit, Rufus. As you know, Sulcatas don't "go around" anything, so if Rufus is in his path, he just plows through and Rufus gets out of his way. They share food all the time. We are in Southern Oregon, so Tortuga has a heated house. We also have chickens, which Tortuga just ignores.
