I just noticed this growing in my back yard. I have tried to grow some Rose of Sharon from seeds gifted to me by @Turtulas-Len for the last couple of years with no real success. But just now I saw this pretty far from where I had my actual attempts to grow them. Is this Rose of Sharon???🙏🙏A39894C0-B643-43AB-90DE-FF90B734C4C8.jpeg

Congratulations, You should let some go to seed and start more next year. Most of the ROS I have are volunteers and you never know where they will pop up.

That’s great! I still have no idea how this happened. I never got flowers for the only one plant that barely grew leaves. Thanks again for the seeds!

It's actually a Len miracle! A couple years ago Len sent me some wild grape seeds and some palm tree seeds. Before getting the seeds from Len I NEVER, in all the years I lived here, ever had volunteer grape or palm, but since receiving those seeds I now have volunteers coming up all the time.

So just look at it as a Len miracle!

So, the plant is currently growing out of a pile of dirt that was shoveled and moved over to expand an enclosure. I can't leave it there, but is there a safe way to move it so I don't kill it? I'd like to move it into one of the tortoise enclosures.

I'd wait until it goes dormant for winter to move it. Waiting til late February or early March would be best. And trim it back at that time to put less stress on the root system.

Ok, thank you for your help. I can definitely do that. I might contact you next year for some tips.

Just finished picking Sammy some Rose of Sharon flowers. Made him a pizza, will add the greens to serve him when he decided to get up.

Fence it off when you move it, my big boy knocked over 3 plants (2 RoS and a Banana Tree) and ate them to the root ball. Now I start them in planters for a year or two first.

Are those pure white? Sammy should get some ROS leafs too...
Yes, I have a white Rose of Sharon. And yes he will get plenty of leaves and greens with his flowers. I seen a picture of a yellow Rose of Sharon in a post on TFO that I would like to have.

Yeah, the first two plants I started I moved to the ground too quickly. One died and my Hermann’s ate down the other one. The next ones I planted and left in pots, but they struggled to grow. I gave up eventually and moved the one surviving pot outside. It came back this summer, but no flowers and barely any leaves. This accidental one is flourishing. I’d hate for one of my tortoises to mow it down 😅.
