You might wonder what is my interest here, since I live in the Tropics. However, I happen to know a lot about some similar "states" of immobility that tortoises can get into, like for example:. Hesitate - a temporary but perhaps alarmingly lengthy stop. Then you have Meditate - which is like Hesitate but with some element of deep thought connected to it. And of course also, your tortoise may sometimes Gravitate. This may be a bit disturbing to you, when you thought he was in one place but then saw him somewhere else entirely. But if you ever see him Levitate...then that is when you will know that both you and your tortoise have achieved a new and exciting level of existence!

Tammy. You forgot Marinate - when your tortoise refuses to come out of his water.

OK then. We all know Aestivate...that's a kind of fake brumate, am I right? Then you might witness your tortoise Vascillate, which is a state of immobility due to not being able to reach the decision to move. Hmmm. Anyone can think of more?

Another slow day in Jamaica. But our Sully often repudiates my orders to just go buy her own greens. If i don’t yell loudly enough our Sully will often just sit in front of a grassy patch and vegetate. Hopefully she won’t mutate into a dinosaur or be eaten, beaten up or mutilated by an alien.

Even Luckier is Never seeing a Tortoise Ejaculate..
Ahhh...ok. Let me illuminate the meaning of this thread if I can. It's all about a tortoise being unmoving for a long time, as if it was hibernating, or brumating, or aestivating, but in fact, it is not doing any of these things, so the question is, why is it not moving? What is it doing to cause it to just stay in one place and not move? All the words I am thinking of are things it may be doing instead of hibernate, brumate or aestivate. Get it now guys? So... moving right along...
