Hi Al here again, just a little something I made in my spare time. Was getting tired of spraying and misting my tortoise table. Got an ultrasonic humidifier on sale for $17 and spent a couple dollars on PVC pipe and fittings. Keeps one side of my tortoise table at 80% and the other side at 70% humidity, thats on the low setting. Its on a timer and comes on 1hour and off 2 hours. Still have to play with the timing, will save up for a hygrotherm controller. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0019IHK9Q/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20. Please comment and enjoy :D

Oh just to apologize in advance, some people already came up with the idea already from older posts. Just wanted to show my setup. Thanks :)

OMG, My humidifier is almost like that one. I was going to do that to mine, but didn't think it would flow down the tube enough to do anything. I was going to use plastic or rubber hose. It should still work, shouldn't it? It would free up some room in the box. I have to put the whole unit in there now. I didn't want to spend the money on hose, cut it up and then not work. I do that a lot on ideas. Some work, some not so much:(. Thanks for sharing, glad it works. Guess what I will be doing:D

Haha glad to help, I tried a hose too and had it go up like 4 feet from the humidifier to see if it could still push the mist. It does so i'm sure it will have no problem for your purposes :)

No gravity needed but it helps, it's able to push the mist pretty well against gravity, even on the low setting, just make sure the tubing adapter to connect the PVC to the humidifier is pretty snug, it will leak water that has collected otherwise. I took the spout from the humidifier and test fitted it at home depot to make sure it fit nice and snug.

Okay just tested it, 5 feet vertically is about the limit for my humidifier to push against gravity. If the tube goes back down then there is some siphoning effect which increases the flow. But for best performance better mount the humidifier high like mine. At full power it humidifies the entire table to 100% in about 20 minutes. I really want to get that automatic hygrometer, but still have to save up haha. By the way my wife thinks I'm crazy with all my tortoise antics, she says I should install a jacuzzi while I'm at it :p

Wow, that actually sounds easy enough, despite my being all thumbs. Now, the tortoise jacuzzi is something I'll leave to the professionals :D

Nice job there; and the PVC stuff is cheap and you don't need to glue it, unless you want to.
I have RT's myself, but I use PVC for a lot of my projects.

We have a similar set up for our poison dart frogs, except we used flexible tubing instead of pvc pipe. It works really well except when to much condisation builds up in the tube. Then you have to wiggle the tube a bit and it starts blowing fine again.

Thanks Yup he loves to just cruise the top and bask now and then. I think its really good to have multiple levels so they get good exercise :D

Great set up! I was curious to know what model/brand humidifier you used. I'm looking through amazon for a warm air humidifier to rig up likes yours....but I'm having a hard time trying to convert the steam opening into a tube. I'm no engineer, so I'm horrible at rigging up these kinds of things. Any suggestions?

Hi poppawinst:

Won't you take a few moments to start a new thread in the "introductions" section and tell us a bit about yourself?
