I absolutely love looking at the pics you post....I love the tortoise yard you have...so beautiful, so creative. This spring will be the first that I will be setting up a real outside area for the little RFs here and while your tortoise yard is mature I love to look at it for inspiration. Here in the high desert the summers can be intense so lush is a tough target to hit a bullseye on...but when I have an idea I always come back and peek at your posts for inspiration :D:D:D:D:D

So, while I don't always post...know you have a steady lurker for your tortoise yard pics.... thank you.

Angela ....Thank you , ya made my day ...
I myself have moved a bit further inland than coastal temps I was used to. Last summer was the first, and there were and still some ideas floating around my head to help with the heat. The yard and torts is a love, passion and WORK!...I'm greatful for folks like yourself who notice and peep in ' with a happy response, as these hobbies and this forum keep me healthy happy and sane.:p
Here are some other enclosures from the past , that may help with some groovy ideas....

VERY jealous here..... I can never get enough of your enclosures. Now I'm wondering.......I always cook the pumpkin. So I guess it's OK to feed it raw. Do you leave the seeds in there too?

JD, sometimes I look at your pictures and think, "wouldn't be so bad to be one of his torts...". If a 5'10 tortoise rings your doorbell one day, odds are it's not Dana Carvey reembarking on another terrible movie (Master of Disguise), it's me.

Fantastic!! and the last photo in post #3 of this thread is somewhat the idea I have to centralize the CDTs here...

I have the four males and I have a 1.25 acre piece of property...the house is dead center of the property and I have two back yard fenced in yards and the one side is approximately 60' x 70'...this is the side of the yard that I will be focusing on to do a similar style of one complete fenced in area and then sub areas within that larger perimeter....the good thing about having the CDTs is that the requirement for turf is not as great as their need for the native weeds and grasses...whew on that, as lush grass is a nightmare to achieve here in this area....lol

I have the two little RFs a spot designated for their part of the yard to begin with (due to them being small still and perfect size for the Ravens, Hawks and Falcons to swoop in on) right under a nice Mimosa tree near the front porch so I can see them easily and this is an area that I water frequently during the year (other than wet cold winter days) so it has some great growth for hiding. Their set up will not be as beautiful and large to begin with as it will be when they have grown some...because I will have to have a top for their area to keep the predators at bay...:p

Thank you again for sharing your beautiful tortoise yards :D

Angela , that photo your speaking of is for a CDT. There is a Large Dog ~Loo buried 4' down at a slight incline , with dirt ramp . Then atop are large boulders of " feather " lava rock, making the " hide" ... "natural" looking, also this makes for a
"dry" under ground hide out and hibernation house for CDT's. Here is an Old shot as mentioned with " Ronnie" cruising out of the hide after a slight rain" ....

and of course from years back ... one of the BIGBOY"Z keeping track of RF's in HIS playground ... ( just for the days pics and size comp.)
